الطَّهورُ / Ritual Purification *
 
  1ـ رسولُ اللهِِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): الطَّهُورُ شَطرُ الإيمانِ. 
1– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Purification is a portion of faith.’ 
[Kanz al-`Ummal, no. 25998] 
 
 
 
 
   2ـ رسولُ اللهِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): أوَّلُ مايُحاسَبُ بهِ العَبدُ طَهُورُهُ. 
 
2– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The first thing that the servant will have to account for is his ritual purification.’

   3ـ رسولُ اللهِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): لا تُقبَلُ صَلاةٌ بغَيرِ طَهورٍ. 
 
3– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘A prayer without ablution is not accepted.’

المُطَهِّراتُ / Purifying Agents
 
 
1 ـ الماءُ
 
1. Water 
 
 
   4ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): خَلَقَ اللّهُ الماءَ طَهورا لا يُنَجِّسُهُ شَيءٌ، إلّا ما غَيَّرَ لَونَهُ أو طَعمَهُ أو رِيحَهُ . 
 
4– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Allah has created water to be a purifier where nothing can make it impure, except for that water whose colour, taste or smell has changed.’

 2 ـ الشّمسُ
 
 2. The Sun 
 
  
 
   5ـ الإمامُ الباقرُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): كُلُّ ما أشرَقَت علَيهِ الشَّمسُ فهُو طاهِرٌ. 
 
5– Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Everything that the sun shines on becomes purified.’

 3 ـ التُّرابُ
 
 3. Earth 
 
  
 
   6ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إنّ اللّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ جَعَلَ التُّرابَ طَهوراً كما جَعَلَ الماءَ طَهوراً. 
 
6– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Verily Allah, Mighty and Exalted, made the earth a purifier just as he made water a purifier.’

 4 ـ النارُ
 
 4. Fire 
 
  
 
   7ـ الإمامُ الكاظمُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ لمّا سُئلَ عنِ الجِصِّ يُوقَدُ عَلَيهِ بِالعذَرَةِ وعِظامِ المَوتى ثُمَّ يُجَصَّصُ بِهِ المَسجِدُ ، أيُسجَدُ عَلَيهِ ؟ ـ: إنَّ الماءَ وَالنّارَ قَد طَهَّراهُ. 
 
7– Imam al-Kazim (AS) was once asked about gypsum that is burnt along with dried excrement and bone ash, and then used to plaster a mosque, and whether prostration on such plaster is allowed. He replied, ‘Verily water and fire 
 
[from the kilning process] have purified it.’

الطَّهارَةُ المَعنَوِيَّةُ / Spiritual Purity
 
 
   8ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): فَـرَضَ اللّهُ الإيمـانَ تَطهيـراً مِـن الشِّركِ . 
 
8– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Allah has obligated faith in order to purify one from polytheism.’

   9ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إنَّ تَقوَى اللّهِ دَواءُ داءِ قُلوبِكُم ... وطَهُورُ دَنَسِ أنفُسِكُم . 
 
9– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Verily being wary of one’s duty to Allah is the remedy for the disease of your hearts … and the purifier of the pollution in your souls.’

   10ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إن كُنتُم لا مَحالَةَ مُتَطَهِّرِينَ فَتَطَهَّرُوا مِن دَنَسِ العُيوبِ والذُّنوبِ . 
 
10– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Since you have no choice but to purify your bodies, then make a point of purifying yourselves of your faults and your sins.’
